Francisco Sánchez Legrán: “…September 29th the labor unions of Europe have called mobilizations and a big protest demonstration in Brussels..”

Dear Sirs:

The next September 29th the labor unions of Europe have called mobilizations and a big protest demonstration in Brussels to object to the social cutbacks and the austerity measures adopted by different governments of Europe, as a response to the economic crisis that we are going through. These measures affect directly to the workers’ rights and the citizens’ rights and guarantees.

FACUA considers that the European consumers should join to the protest actions calling on all citizens, in their consumer condition, to refuse an economic and production model that considers the consumerism a top priority and strengthens the financial markets. This circumstance is damaging the weakest part, the citizens in their dual condition of workers-consumers, questioning permanently the Welfare State and eroding it. The crisis that Europe it’s going through isn´t a cyclical fact, but it’s the result of a life style and an economic system unsustainable materially and humanly.

The different governments of Europe, as well as the European institutions, are answering to this situation with the sacrifice of the weakest part, and they aren’t questioning the actual model of production and consumption, guilty of that.

It is necessary that all citizens show our rejection of these unfair and regressive measures that reduce our rights as workers, but also as consumers and, in general, as citizens.

This is why we move the support initiative of the Day of Action on September 29th calling on all European consumers to make this day “a day without shopping”. If you share this reflection, we invite your organization to join the action.
